Autism-Friendly Business Checklist A free starting point for noticing visit barriers and explaining real options. AutismCertified is an exploratory initiative. Its certification pathway is a public draft. This checklist is not an assessment, certification, or booked review. 1. Plan arrival and waiting - Walk the route from entrance to service as a first-time visitor would. - Notice where queues, unclear directions, or sudden changes could make arrival harder. - Write down one accurate way to explain the wait before a visit. 2. Notice sound, light, and breaks - Identify noisy, bright, or crowded moments in your space. - Find a quieter or lower-pressure option if one is actually available. - Consider how a visitor can ask for a break or step out and return. 3. Make communication flexible - Give someone time to respond without adding pressure. - Offer a written option or a simpler explanation when your team can provide one. - Name a person who can help staff answer visit questions consistently. 4. Describe real supports and limits - Share useful facts such as entrances, waiting, noise, and available support before a visit. - State what your team can and cannot offer in plain language. - Avoid medical promises or unverified certification claims. 5. Choose one next step - Pick one improvement your team can make this week. - Decide how current and new staff will learn what your place can actually offer. - Ask a question if you want help using the resources; an inquiry does not book a review.
